This Photographer Photographs Real-Life ‘Angry Birds’ And The Result Is Going To Make You Laugh Hard

This project that’s called Frontals contains bird photos the ecologist, filmmaker, and photographer Ruurd Jelle van der Leij has been collecting for more than ten years. When he takes a series of photos of a single bird, the photographer always gets a frontal shot of the bird or two in between. So, he found out these frontal shots made the birds look entirely different. That was when he decided to focus on them and make sure he would have at least one frontal shot in each of his series. He then realized some birds started to look like cartoon characters, while some looked ridiculous and funny. He observed a big change in waders in particular since they tend to have long bills not visible from the front. The photographer is obviously familiar with the bird species, but frontals can hide some extreme characteristics of the birds when you don’t know them. Owls and birds of prey look at you from a frontal view, that’s the normal way for them, so they’re only fun when they twist their heads. According to him, only spoonbills are indeed much prettier when they show their great bill with yellow spots and tufted heads. Frontals also allow you to create extraordinary compositions, from a photogenic perspective. You need to understand the “Less is more” philosophy works great with frontal birds. So, here in this gallery, you’re going to find some examples of this project. We guarantee you that they’re going to change the way you’re looking at birds!
