Realistic Beetle Paintings on Volkswagen Buses

Famous automobile brand Volkswagen which produced Beetle also produces a microbus in 1950. The microbus became very popular among young people especially hippies and it turned into an iconic model for American youth movement.

Ben Pon who was a Dutch Trader had the first idea of Volkswagen Bus and he brought them to Netherlands. In 1947, he prepared the outline of his design and engineers working for VW improved the idea and produced the microbus in 1950.


The Bus had a lot of different names. Some of them are “Combi”, “Splittie” and “Bulli”. “Combi”. It was also called as Hippi van because mostly young people and hippies used it for camps, concerts and some anti-war protests.


The people who bought these buses made some changes on the design and painted the buses with colorful images. For example, when famous musician Jerry Garcia passed away, a tear running down was painted in front of the car.
