The Most Magnificent Tree Of Mother Earth: Rainbow Eucalyptus

A botanist in Australia encountered a rainbow eucalyptus tree which was a tree he has never seen before. The tree was so colorful that he thought someone painted it but not short after that, he realized it was Mother Nature’s work.

As being one of the 4 species (in total 700), the rainbow eucalyptus originated from Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and the Philippines and doesn’t exist in Australia but can be seen in Hawaii.

The rainbow eucalyptus is affected by wet and warm regions of South-East Asian rainforests. Australian Geographic resembled the colors in a four colored highlighter chart.

The bark of the tree brings into light various colors after being shed. Brett Summerell, Royal Botanic Garden Sydney’s chief botanist says that the first color exposed is green, then it is red, then it turns into orange and purple and lastly returns to brown.

There are other trees that go through this process such as forest red gum or spotted gum but the change of colors is way more splendid in rainbow eucalyptus than the others.

Brett succeeded planting a rainbow eucalyptus in Australia with his team but he adds that the bark colors are not as distinct as in its natural habitat. Again, the natural habitat of rainbow eucalyptus is endangered by deforestation and firewood use.
