Gorgeous Wooden Trolls Hidden in the Belgian Forest

Art can help us ascribe a meaning even to ordinary things and make it look stunning from that moment. Thomas Dambo is an artist from Copenhagen, Denmark. His motto as an artist is to highlight the possible usage of wasted materials and raise awareness to connect with nature, if possible. So far, his masterpieces seem to be serving his purpose.

Dambo creates giant wooden trolls and hides them in between the forests and wildlife of Belgium and other places of the world. He produces the trolls out of recycled materials. The timber that he uses is found by the fallen trees, supermarkets, pallets or huge city dumpsters.

The wooden trolls vary from 23 to 59 feet (around 7 to 18 meters). One of his projects is titled “The 7 Trolls and the Magical Tower”. The tower in that fairytale project reaches almost 56 feet (17 meters height.

Dambo makes his sculptures with a group of fifteen people. Within a period of 25 weeks, they created seven trolls that look mystical, amazing and pretty. The artist has been interested in folklore stories and fairytales of different nations, which composed the basis for his troll sculptures. He has even created one story for his wooden trolls in the Belgian Forest.

There are plenty of other locations where he has hidden massive trolls around the world and Dambo likes to refer to the wandering process to find them as “en plein air sculpture treasure hunt”. He is also quite gentle to put the names of the volunteers on each giant troll.
