Leonardo DiCaprio has been a famous artist with global success and is mostly known for his movies such as The Great Gatsby or Titanic. There’s another side of DiCaprio which is rarely known, he has been raising money within a foundation carrying his name, constituted for environmental issues. The foundation declared its main purpose as protecting and saving the last wild animal species in the world and preventing the extinction.
In the near future, DiCaprio declared another donation he’ll make which will be around $15.6 million. In line with the goal of the foundation, the donation will be made over foundation and used for species in danger. Over these last years, DiCaprio has always been trying to raise awareness of public about the damage we do to ecosystems, all species, plants and to world, in general. He also mentioned that industries are like taking their power from the current legislation. DiCaprio’s last donation seems to be dedicated for saving endangered animals such as giraffes.
DiCaprio founded it in 1998, when he was younger than 25, which means he had this awareness about climate change at a very early age. Thanks to the foundation and his active role as supporter, they reached hundreds of millions of dollars fund for projects over 40 countries, which even provided him awards.
Recently, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said that since giraffes aren’t commonly seen at zoos, people forget that they deserve to be on that list. DiCaprio’s donations are rising hope to make a difference by supporting and believing in projects to save the planet. Since there’s not much to do about what’s coming, the least humans can do is to reduce giving damage on animals and environment. DiCaprio’s behavior was criticized by some, while some people made compliments. In 2016, DiCaprio used a private jet to receive an award and attend a fundraising event, which caused some critiques to comment on him as a hypocrite. However, DiCaprio said that that was the only way he knew how to reach both events. Yet, he has collected millions of dollars donation, donated millions of his own, attended to an auction on his home to be given to charity, and used his popularity to provide benefit in a global issue.
