A Granny at the Age of 70 Has Been Cleaning 52 Beaches Over One Year, Showing that Taking Care of the World is Simple

Although we have a tendency to forget it, our planet Earth is our home. We are gifted by the universe and we need to repay it by taking good care of it which is not always the case. Yet, there are some heroes among society, taking action to save the planet, minding about the future, do all they can do for perpetuity of this fascinating world.

Global problems are caused from little things, we just need to take responsibility to solve it. Pat Smith is a proof that small contributions can make big changes.


A local from Cornwall, UK, Pat Smith, feeling discomfort because of the pollution and find her own way of contributing on a solution. This gave us an inspiration and we wanted it to inspire others as well.


Pat Smith has watched a documentary on plastic pollution and got worried about the issue. She was unable to sleep and after that, she was determined to take action. So, starting from 2018, she promised herself to clean one beach each week.


Locals from Cornwall gave support to her, even some of them helped her. At the end, they cleaned up 52 of Cornwall’s beaches them by 2018. Since then, she is moving on to fulfill this mission of turning world into a better place.


Also, Smith has held a campaign named The Final Straw. She is trying to raise awareness about plastic damage being given to the world and started from Cornwall, encouraging people for a plastic-free life.


Plastic straws for single use are very unnecessary and harmful to the environment. It kills marine life.
